Salix Discolor
$15.00
Bundle of 6 Cuttings
Salix discolor - The distinguishing feature of this pussywillow is the hull that precedes its fuzzy white catkin. The hull starts red and yellow, similar to candy corn, then turns black before the emergence of the catkin. Hulls start showing in October for us. The unusual color of the buds makes it another interesting material for floral designs. It's also a good variety for landscaping, with really beautiful foliage on new growth, and provides an early pollen source for bees and other pollinators.
On our farm it grows 4'-6' long stems in a season after coppicing. Left unpruned it will grow into a small tree.
